Men's Basketball Back in Win Column With Dominant 26-Point Victory at IU Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ind. - The IU Kokomo men's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak Tuesday evening with a strong 97-71 win over IU Columbus behind a strong first half and balanced scoring. The Cougars set the tone early and finished the job in the second half to get back in the win column.

THE RUNDOWN
  • The Cougars came out of the gates firing, jumping out to a 24-4 lead by the 12:06 mark in the first half. IU Kokomo was in control the rest of the half, increasing their lead to 30 points, and taking a 48-18 lead into the locker room. 
  • The Cougars came back out still firing, taking their lead to as many as 35 points at multiple points throughout the early second half. 
  • The Crimson Pride attempted to come back, but the Cougars defense was stifling, allowing their lead to shrink to only 19 points once in the second half. 
  • Ultimately, IU Kokomo and Jaylen Barbara closed out the game at the free throw line, securing their 97-71 victory. 

LEADING THE CHARGE
  • The Cougars had four players score in double figures on Tuesday night. They were led by Patric Matson, who had 21 points to go along with eight rebounds. 
  • Evan Kretz had 19 points of his own Tuesday, going 5-11 from behind the arc. 
  • Joseph Annan Jr. and Ibrahim Diakite held down the paint during the contest, as Annan Jr. had 17 points plus six boards. Diakite only had five points, but the Crimson Pride felt his impact as he nabbed 10 rebounds and dished out five assists. 
  • Jake McGraw was the final Cougar in double figures as he scored 12 points off the bench.
