Cougars Improve to 1-1 with 74-53 Triumph Over CCSJ

KOKOMO, Ind. - The Indiana University Kokomo women's basketball team evened its record at 1-1 on the young season Saturday, earning a 74-53 home win over the Crimson Wave of Calumet College of St. Joseph.

THE RUNDOWN 
  • IU Kokomo had difficulty creating separation in a back-and-forth first quarter, with the teams tied at 18 after a strong closing two minutes from Calumet College of St. Joseph (CCSJ).
  • After trailing by five early in the second quarter, Mackenzie York scored five straight points to give the Cougars a one-point lead. Her layup ignited a 12-0 run, putting IU Kokomo ahead by 12 before heading into the half with a nine-point advantage.
  • With a nine-point lead over the Crimson Wave just past the midpoint of the third quarter, head coach Lisa Pflueger's squad finished the period on a 12-2 run, stretching the advantage to a commanding 59-40.
  • The Cougars held steady in the fourth quarter, outscoring CCSJ to secure a 74-53 victory and improve to 1-1 on the season.

LEADING THE CHARGE
  • Four Cougars reached double figures Saturday afternoon, led by senior forwards Mia Catey and Moriah Crawford, who each tallied 15 points and 11 rebounds. For Crawford, both totals were career highs.
  • Mackenzie York added 12 points on a perfect 2-for-2 effort from beyond the arc, while Cameryn Rector chipped in 11 points.
  • In all, 10 different Cougars contributed to the 21-point win.
