KOKOMO, Ind. - The IU Kokomo women's basketball team returned to the win column Saturday with a dominating 80-45 win over IU Columbus. With the victory, Lisa Pflueger's squad improves to 6-9 overall and 2-2 in River States Conference play.
After IU Columbus scored the first points of the game, IU Kokomo scored the next six, all in the paint. The Cougars led for the remainder of the quarter, but the Crimson Pride remained within striking distance, trailing by five after one quarter.
The Cougars outscored IUC 19-11 in the second quarter, maintaining at least a seven point lead throughout. Through 20 minutes, it was IU Kokomo in front 40-27.
The most lopsided quarter of Saturday's contest proved to be the third, as seven different Cougars scored in the frame. IU Kokomo opened the third quarter with a 16-0 scoring run, keeping the Crimson Pride scoreless until the 2:24 minute mark of the period.

Shamaria Walker layup with 15 seconds left gave the Cougars a 28-point lead heading into the fourth.
IU Kokomo led by as many as 38 in the fourth quarter as they coasted to a 35-point, 80-45 victory over IU Columbus.
Junior forward
Mia Catey pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds Saturday, pairing them with a season-high 19 points for her third double-double of the season.
Anna Kiser was one rebound shy of a double-double, finishing with 16 points and nine boards.
Mackenzie York enjoyed a strong game at the guard spot, recording nine points, eight rebounds, and five assists.
Lexi DiOrio added seven points as all 10 Cougars who played, scored.Â
Freshman
Kelsey Bergman scored her first collegiate points in the win, having just joined the team at semester. Bergman, a now two-sport athlete, is also a member of the Cougar volleyball team that just finished their season with a Sweet 16 finish.
The Cougars will stay home to host SMWC Tuesday at 7:30 PM before welcoming IU East to town Saturday.
