PIPPA PASSES, Ky. - The IU Kokomo baseball team defeated Alice Lloyd College 13-2 in a seven inning run-rule Saturday afternoon, completing the sweep in their three game series against the Eagles. With the win, the Cougars improve to 14-11 this season and 4-2 in conference play.
Riley Garczynski put the Cougars on the board right away with a solo home run in the top of the first inning. The Cougars scored again in the second inning on
Tahj Borom's sacrifice fly that sent
Jarod Gillespie home, and
Jack Leverenz hit a two run bomb in the third to give IUK a 4-0 lead.
Alice Lloyd scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, but these would be their only runs of the game, while the Cougars were just getting started.
IUK scored five more runs in the fourth inning to increase their lead to 9-2. Four additional runs came in the sixth inning on a two-run homer by
Tucker Platt and a two-RBI double from Borom, as the Cougars ultimately sealed a 13-2 victory over the Eagles.
Junior RHP
Mason Whiteley dazzled with a complete game win to improve to 2-2 on the year. Whiteley gave up six hits and two earned runs with one walk and two strikeouts in the run-rule victory.
After their victorious weekend on the road, the Cougars will return home for a matchup with Grace College on Tuesday afternoon. This will quickly be followed by a fthreeur game series in West Virginia against the WVU Tech Golden Bears.
