KOKOMO, Ind. – The IU Kokomo women's basketball team fell to the Mighty Oaks of Oakland City University on Tuesday evening by a score of 75-63. The Cougars previously lost to Oakland City on the road by 47. Besides a lackluster opening period, the Cougars outscored the Mighty Oaks by eight over the final three periods.
The Cougars' struggles started early as they found themselves down 14-1 four minutes into the game, before a layup by
Alaya Chapman cut the deficit to 11.
Anna Kiser scored a layup and two free throws in the final moment of the quarter, but the Oaks held a 30-10 lead going into the second.
Oakland City started the second quarter strong as well, leading by as many as 27. The Cougars found some offense in the latter half of the quarter, including three sank free throws by
Emma Good followed by a triple by
McKenzie Cooper, cutting the deficit to 18 at halftime.
The third quarter was defined by back and forth offense between the Oaks and Cougars, as any bucket found by IUK was quickly answered by Oakland City. The Mighty Oaks' largest lead of the quarter was 21, and the smallest lead was 17.
The fourth quarter was IU Kokomo's strongest, scoring 22 points against their opponents 14, but the Cougars were unable to put together a comeback, losing by a final score of 75-63.
Alaya Chapman was the Cougars leading scorer in the loss with 16 points.
Anna Kiser added 11 points and
Cameryn Rector scored 10.
The Cougars will play their final game of the season this Saturday in the form of a road contest against Brescia University.
