KOKOMO, Ind. - The IU Kokomo baseball team closed out the four game series with #6 Tennessee Wesleyan Saturday by splitting the doubleheader. The Cougars took game one before giving up a late lead to drop game two.
IU Kokomo was the visiting team on the scoreboard for both games of Saturday's doubleheader.
Game 1: 10-9 Win
- Tennessee Wesleyan struck first, pushing four runs across in the bottom of the third to lead 4-0.
- Mike Talesky singled in the top of the fourth, scoring Tucker Platt who singled. Dylan Steele doubled earlier in the inning and scored on a 6-4-3 double play to trail 4-2 through three and a half.
- TWU got one back in the bottom of the fourth, adding back on to lead 5-2.
- Tucker Platt came through in the fifth with a solo-shot to left, cutting into the deficit once again to now trail 5-3.
- Dylan Janke singled in the sixth and his courtesy runner Blake Kimball, would eventually score on passed ball to chop the two-run TWU lead in half.
- Brandon Bultemeier entered out of the pen in the bottom of the sixth, looking to get the Cougars out of a jam. He did just that, stranding a pair of baserunners to keep it a one-run game through six.
- Alex Janke and Platt each reached to open the top-half of the seventh, before Janke scored to tie the game on an RBI groundout. Talesky came through once again with another RBI single, scoring Platt's pinch runner and handing the Cougars a 6-5 lead.
- The Bulldogs responded, scoring a single run in the seventh to knot the game 6-6 through seven innings.
- Tahj Borom led off the eighth with a single before scoring on a Riley Garczynski two-bagger. Garczynski then scored on a Platt double, and Platt would score on a Steele single. A Jarod Gillespie double scored Steele to close out a four-run inning, giving IU Kokomo a 10-6Â lead.
- Tennessee Wesleyan refused to go away quietly, scoring three runs in the bottom of the ninth. Victor Fujiu entered the game for the Cougars with two on and no outs in the bottom of the ninth. Fujiu slammed the door shut on the Bulldogs despite two more runs scoring via error, closing out a 10-9 IU Kokomo win.
- Justin Bultemeier got the start, going five innings and allowing five earned runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three.
- Brandon Bultemeier got the win to improve to 1-0, tossing TWO innings in relief, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits.
- Victor Fujiu tossed the ninth for his first save of the season, not allowing a single hit.Â
Game 2: 6-4 Loss
- Tennessee Wesleyan scored first, pushing a run across in the bottom of the first on a solo-shot.
- Gavin Clayton singled in the bottom of the second, scoring Mike Talesky and tying the game 1-1.
- The Bulldogs scored an unearned run in the second to regain a one run lead.
- IU Kokomo broke through in the third, scoring three runs on three TWU errors and a hit to lead 4-2.
- The Cougars maintained the lead until the sixth inning, where TWU broke out for four runs to lead 6-4 heading into the final frame.
- Tucker Platt doubled in the seventh but nothing came of it, as IUK dropped game four of the series 6-4.
- Logan Greer got the start and pitched well despite taking the loss. Greer allowed six runs (three earned) on eight hits and a walk while striking out two  in 5.1 innings of work.
- Junior LHP Nathan Stanley entered the game and recorded the final two outs of the sixth inning without allowing a hit.
The Cougars will host Trinity Christian Thursday for the first midweek game of the year. It will be a single nine inning game beginning at 2:00 PM.
