WYOMING, Mich. - The IU Kokomo women's basketball team picked up their third win of the season last night at Grace Christian, dominating the Tigers en route to a 75-28 victory. With the win, the Cougars are now 3-4 overall.
IU Kokomo opened the game by scoring the first 16 points, holding Grace Christian scoreless until there were just a 31 seconds remaining in the opening quarter. Head coach Lisa Pflueger's squad led 16-3 after one quarter.
Leading 22-5, the Cougars utilized a 23-0 run to extend the lead to 40 in the final minute of the first half. It was a 38 point halftime lead for IUK.
Grace Christian managed to find some sort of offensive rhythm in the third, as the Cougars outscored the Tigers 14-13 to lead 59-20 with 10 minutes to play.
IUK doubled Grace Christian up once again in the fourth, cruising to an impressive 75-28 victory on the road.
A pair of freshmen led the Cougars offensively Wednesday, as
Lexi DiOrio had a career-high 21 points while
Mackenzie York poured in 12 points for a career-high of her own. DiOrio also tallied five rebounds and three assists, with York totaling four rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
Hannah Hodgen stuffed the stat-sheet, recording seven points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
Mia Catey was the third and final Coug to score in double-figures, notching 10 points while falling just one rebound short of a double-double. Fellow junior forward
Moriah Crawford made her first career start Wednesday, scoring two points and pulling down seven boards. DiOrio, York, and Crawford played valuable minutes in the victory.
The Cougars are set to begin River States Conference play this weekend, as they will head south to New Albany to battle IU Southeast at 3:00 PM Saturday.
