BECKLEY, W. Va. - The Indiana University Kokomo women's soccer team fell 3-0 to WVU Tech Wednesday night in a River States Conference Championship Quarterfinal match.
The loss puts an end to the Cougars 2024 season, as they finish the year with an overall record of 6-9-4 and a .500 conference record of 3-3-3.
The Golden Bears of WVU Tech dominated possession for a majority of Wednesday's match, out-shooting IUK 27-10 and 17-9 in shots on goal.
WVU Tech opened the scoring in the 15th minute with the lone first half goal, as Korinne Potter and Julia Silva combined to give the Golden Bears the 1-0 lead they would take into halftime.
IU Kokomo's only shot on frame of the first half came in the 31st minute, as
Kelsi Hoot's shot was saved by WVU Tech goalkeeper Sandra Garcia Quilez.
Charity Lewis peppered Quilez with a pair of shots early in the second half, but it was the Golden Bears finding their footing offensively yet again. WVUT extended their lead to 2-0 in the 64th minute before adding on in the 68th minute to lead 3-0.
The Cougars managed to put six shots on goal in the final 20 minutes, however they were unable to find the back of the net to cut into the Golden Bear lead. WVU Tech closed out a 3-0 win Wednesday to advance to the RSC Semifinals Saturday at #1 seed Oakland City.
Thank you to the seniors for their tireless efforts and contributions to the IU Kokomo women's soccer program, we wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.
