MARION, Ind. - The Indiana University Kokomo women's basketball team opened their 2024-2025 season, taking on third-ranked Indiana Wesleyan on their home floor. The Wildcats emerged victorious by a final score of 100-52.
The Cougars trailed 9-2 just about five minutes into the first quarter, but Indiana Wesleyan ended the quarter on a 21-0 run. The Wildcats then outscored IUK by 17 in the second quarter, as the Cougars entered the locker room facing a large halftime deficit.
After struggling to find any footing offensively in the opening 20 minutes, the Cougars put up 39 second half points. IU Kokomo found a bit of solid ground in the third quarter, as IWU and IUK each scored 19 third period points.Â
First year coach Lisa Pflueger's squad saved their highest scoring quarter for last. The Cougs put up 20 fourth quarter points despite falling by 48.
Two IU Kokomo players scored in double figures, as
Mia Catey scored 12 and
Chloe McClain added 10.
Kelsi Langley tallied nine points while freshman
Lexi DiOrio had eight.
Catey and Langley each had six rebounds, while
Anna Kiser totaled four.
The Cougars will travel to Muncie Wednesday for an exhibition game against NCAA Division I Ball State. Tip-off is set for 6:00 PM inside Worthen Arena.
