CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio. - The Cougar men's basketball team has now won five-consecutive games after pulling out an 80-78 win Saturday at Ohio Christian. With Saturday's victory, head coach
Eric Echelbarger's squad improved to 13-2 overall and 3-2 in River States Conference action.
Senior guard Dell Demyers scored the first four points of the game Saturday, giving IU Kokomo an early 4-0 lead. Leading 6-3, the Cougars went on a 10-0 run to take a 13-point lead less than seven minutes into the game.
Facing a 16-point deficit at 21-5, Ohio Christian found their way back into the game with nine-straight points to cut the deficit to seven. The surge from OCU continued for the remainder of the half, as they trailed by just one at halftime.
An OCU jumper tied the game at 41 early in the second half, but IU Kokomo immediately responded with six-straight for a 47-41 lead. The Trailblazers stayed within striking distance before eventually taking their first lead of the game with 10:57 remaining.
Neither side managed to lead by more than five points for the remainder of the game, as IU Kokomo managed to hold on to win 80-78.
Four Cougars scored in double-digits Saturday, led by
Max Newman with 19 and
Dell DeMyers with 18, while
Noah Harris and
Hunter Jackson each scored 14.
The Cougars will next be in action a week from today, as they will welcome Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College to the Student Activities and Events Center for a 3:00 PM tip-off.
