OAKLAND CITY, Ind. - The IU Kokomo women's basketball team took a tough road loss on Tuesday evening, falling to Oakland City by a final score of 111-64 to close out a three-game road trip.
The game began with a layup by Oakland City, which was quickly matched by IUK's
Alaya Chapman. The Oaks then jumped out to an 11-2 lead, and free throws from
Kristen Ridner cut the deficit to seven. A discouraging first quarter saw Oakland City take a 35-14 lead going into the second period.
Oakland City scored six straight at the start of the second quarter to increase their lead to 27.
Mia Catey scored a pair of jump shots at the midpoint of the quarter, but the Mighty Oaks continued to pour on offense, leading by 43 points at halftime.
The second half of the game did see some offensive life for the Cougars, but Oakland City's lead proved to be insurmountable, as any scoring efforts from IUK were quickly answered with more offense from the Mighty Oaks. The Cougars fell 111-64.
Alaya Chapman led the Cougars with 17 points in the loss, followed by
Anna Kiser with 12 and
Kristen Ridner with 11.
The Cougars will return to their home court on Saturday, for an afternoon game against conference foe Brescia University.
