PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The IU Kokomo men's basketball team earned a much-needed win Saturday at Point Park, dominating the 21st-ranked Pioneers 84-69 to return to the win column.
Junior forward
Max Newman was lights-out in Saturday's contest, scoring a game-high 32 points on 7-11 shooting from beyond-the-arc, while also grabbing 13 rebounds for his 11th double-double of the season.
Four other Cougars scored in double-figures in the win, including
Joseph Annan Jr. with 13,
Chris Chin &
Hunter Jackson with 12 apiece, and
Dell DeMyers with 10. Jackson pulled down a season-high 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the year.
After the Pioneers drilled a triple to open the game, IU Kokomo scored 11 straight points, fueled by three
Max Newman triples, for an eight-point lead.
Point Park drilled a second triple to trail by five, but the Cougars immediately responded with a 13-0 run to lead by 18 at 24-6 less than eight minutes into the game. IU Kokomo took a 20-point lead into the locker room at halftime after leading by as many as 23.
IU Kokomo did well to maintain a sizeable lead and keep the Pioneers at-bay in the final 20 minutes, as the closest PPU got was 12 in the final two minutes of the game. The Cougars cruised to a 15-point, 84-69 win over Point Park, improving to 15-5 overall and 5-5 in River States Conference play.
The Cougars will return to Kokomo for a pair of home games next week, beginning with Oakland City Tuesday at 7:00 PM.
