KOKOMO, Ind. – The women's tennis team played their first home match of the season, hosting Trine (Ind.) Tuesday evening. The Cougars rolled to a comfortable 5-2 victory over the Thunder.
The two teams started the seven-point match playing three doubles courts, for one point. IU Kokomo was able to win the lone doubles point with match wins at #2 and #3 doubles. Trine's top doubles team of Emilee Bassett and Alex Maloney beat IUK #1 doubles team of Larissa O'Rourke and Ava Allen by a score of 6-4. Reiley Hiser and Chloe Schmidt won on court two by a score of 7-5 while #3 doubles duo of Maria Oliveira and Kennedy Perrin won 6-1.
In singles play, IU Kokomo took home wins at 1, 2, 4, & 5 singles by Maria Oliveira, Ava Allen, Reiley Hiser and Chloe Schmidt. Oliveira had a comfortable lead all match and won her match by a score of 6-2, 6-4. Both #2 singles and #5 singles went into a tiebreaker which saw IUK come out on top in both matches. Freshman Ava Allen continues to impress, this time with a 3-set win 7-6, 2-6, 10-4.
Breanna Koester was able to pull another IUK singles win playing exhibition singles 6-4 over Trine's Alicia Hunt. The IUK record comes to 1-3 on the abbreviated Fall season with ITA Regional Championships coming up next.
