Women’s Tennis Drops Hard-Fought Spring Opener to Rose-Hulman

GREENTOWN, Ind. - The IU Kokomo women's tennis team, led by first-year head coach Judson Quinn, opened the spring season with a hard-fought 4–3 loss to NCAA Division III opponent Rose-Hulman on Saturday. All six singles matches lasted more than an hour in what proved to be a marathon contest.

THE RUNDOWN
  • The Fightin' Engineers clinched the doubles point by winning both #1 and #3 doubles, as all three doubles matches ended with a final score of 6-2.
  • Rose-Hulman grabbed a 2–0 lead as the No. 1 singles match came off first in a 6–3, 6–3 decision.
  • After dropping the first set 6–1, senior Chloe Schmidt responded with a 7–5 win in the second before blanking her opponent 6–0 in the third to secure the Cougars' first point of the match.
  • Rose-Hulman followed with a win at No. 4 singles, moving within one point of the match with a 6–3, 6–3 decision.
  • Kennedy Perrin and Kennedy Horner came through for the Cougars with wins at their respective positions. Perrin battled for more than two hours to rally past her opponent 3–6, 7–5, 6–2, while Horner secured a straight-sets victory, 6–4, 6–4.
  • With the match tied 3–3 and only No. 5 singles remaining, Molly Farkas showed her grit but came up short, falling 2–6, 6–4, 2–6 as Rose-Hulman secured a 4–3 victory over the Cougars.

LEADING THE CHARGE
  • Chloe Schmidt was part of a pair of IU Kokomo victories Saturday, teaming with Kennedy Horner for a win at No. 2 doubles before rallying for a three-set victory at No. 2 singles after dropping the first set.
  • Kennedy Perrin also outlasted her opponent at No. 3 singles after dropping the opening set, while Kennedy Horner took care of business in straight sets at No. 6 singles to account for the remaining two of IU Kokomo's three points.
