KOKOMO, Ind. - The Indiana University Kokomo volleyball team played their second match in as many days Friday evening, as they welcomed IU Southeast to the Student Activities & Events Center. The Cougars managed to outlast a scrappy Grenadier squad to win the four-set match and improve to 2-0 in RSC action.
With tonight's win over the Grenadiers, the Cougars have now won ten-straight matches against IU Southeast and 20 of 23 all-time. 11 of IUK's 20 wins against IU Southeast were three-set matches, but IUS did well to battle and keep points alive Friday night, while managing to avoid a 12th sweep at the hands of IU Kokomo.
The Cougars 76 digs are the team's most in a match this season, as are the team's 18 total blocks.
A pair of Cougars recorded double-digit kills, as
Lexi Broyles had a career-high 21 kills while
Audrey Strawsma had 12. Broyles & Strawsma carried the load for the Cougars offensively, as both hit over .400 for the night. Broyles also had a season-high six blocks to lead the Cougs.
Sophomore setter
Allison Richman totaled a team-high 25 assists to go along with four blocks.
Kaley Lyons added 18 assists and seven digs.Â
Senior defensive specialist
Alyvia Smith impressed yet again as she had a match-high 27 digs to pair with five assists. Freshmen
Mia Niekamp contributed seven kills while
Cali Cummings tallied three blocks.
IU Kokomo will next be in action Tuesday, September 19th, as they will host IU East in what should be a high-level match between RSC rivals. First-serve is set for 7:00 PM.
