CHILLICOTHE, Ohio. - The Indiana University Kokomo baseball team's season came to an end Saturday afternoon, as they lost 9-0 to Point Park and were eliminated from the River States Conference Baseball Championship.
The 2023 season saw the Cougars finish with an overall record of 28-21 and an RSC mark of 17-10 in
Drew Brantley's second year at the helm of the program.
Key Moments
- Point Park scored first, pushing three runs across the plate in the bottom of the first inning for a 3-0 lead.
- IU Kokomo starter JT Holton would settle in and allow just two more runs in the remainder of his five innings pitched.
- Despite going hitless in the top of the first, the Cougars had at least one hit in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings, but were unable to push a run across with five men left on base.
- The Pioneers pushed a single run across in the third and the sixth to lead 5-0 with three innings to go.
- The Cougars failed to threaten in the seventh and eighth while Point Park scored a pair of runs in each of those innings to take a 9-0 lead into the top of the ninth.
- Jack Leverenz drew a lead-off walk in the ninth, but the next three Cougs were retired in order to close out the 9-0 loss.
Pitching
- JT Holton got the start and took the loss to finish the season with a record of 6-4. Holton allowed five earned runs on seven hits in his five innings of work. He walked two and struck out six.
- Brandon Bultemeier came on in the sixth and had a final line of two earned runs on one hit and one walk in one inning pitched.
- Asa Christie entered the game to pitch the seventh for the Cougars. Christie also surrendered two earned runs on a hit and a walk while striking out a man in his inning of work.
- Garrison Brege tossed a scoreless eighth in his final inning of work at IU Kokomo. Brege allowed two hits but struck out a man to keep the Pioneers at bay.
