KOKOMO, Ind. - The IU Kokomo women's tennis team played their final home match of the 2022-2023 season Monday afternoon as they celebrated their three seniors

Veronica Fiscus. The Cougars dropped a heartbreaker on the courts to RSC foe IU East, 4-3.

The Cougars of IU Kokomo started their final home match of the season strong, winning two of three doubles matches to take the doubles point for an early 1-0 lead. The #2 doubles duo of
Larissa O'Rourke and
Reiley Hiser won 6-3 while the #3 doubles pairing of
Chloe Schmidt and
Lillianne Fishero won handily, 6-2.
IU East won the #2 singles point to even the match at one early on in singles play. The #1 singles match between
Gabbie Orlando and Linda Marino produced some well-played points and impressive rallies, but Marino won 6-2, 6-3 to give IU East a 2-1 lead.
Reiley Hiser dropped a highly-competitive match 4-6, 5-7 at #3 singles, as the Red Wolves of IU East pulled within a point of the match win. IU Kokomo had an answer however, as
Andrea Saylor and
Lillianne Fishero each won their matches fairly easily to tie the match at 3-3. Saylor won 6-2, 6-3 at #4 singles in her final home match of her career while Fishero won 6-3, 6-2 at #5 singles.
The match came down to #6 singles where
Chloe Schmidt and her opponent were locked into a tough match. After winning the opening set 6-2, Schmidt dropped the second set to force a deciding third set. The third set went to a tiebreaker in which Mackenzie Cook of IU East prevailed 7-3 to give IU East the 4-3 win over IU Kokomo.
The Cougars will return to action on Friday, April 14th, as they are set to play at RSC foe IU Southeast.Â
