GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Indiana University Kokomo women's tennis team competed in Grand Rapids, Michigan Friday afternoon against Calvin University. The Cougars lost 8-1, using D-III scoring.

Using NCAA D-III scoring, each doubles match counts as a point with their being nine total points between the singles and doubles matches. Calvin won #1 & #3 doubles handily, but the #2 doubles duo of Reiley Hiser and Andrea Saylor were the last off the court, as they competed well in dropping a tight set, 8-6. Calvin led 3-0 after the doubles matches.

IU Kokomo got their lone point of the match at #1 singles, but the #4 & #6 singles matches both were lost in three sets. Senior Gabbie Orlando won 7-5, 6-4 at #1 singles, but by that point Calvin had clinched a match win. Orlando's win made it 6-1 Calvin, with #5 & #6 singles still on court.

Andrea Saylor, playing #4 singles for the Cougs, dropped the opening set 6-4 before bouncing back to win the second set 6-0. Saylor fell in the third-set super-tiebreaker, 10-6.

#6 singles player Chloe Schmidt also lost the first set before winning the second set in dominant fashion. Schmidt lost the opening set in a tiebreaker just to win the second 6-1 and force a third-set super-tiebreaker. Chloe would drop a hard fought tiebreak, 10-6.

The Cougars will return to the courts on Monday, as they are set to host IU East at their home courts at Taylor High School. First serve is set for 3:00 PM.
