MIDWAY, Ky. - The Indiana University Kokomo baseball team dropped both games of Thursday's doubleheader at RSC foe Midway University. The Cougars lost game one 3-1 and game two 10-7.
Game One Offensively
- IU Kokomo scored their lone run of the game in the top of the first for a 1-0 lead, as Riley Garczynski singled to lead off the game before scoring on a Noah Hurlock single through the left side.
- Midway managed to tie the game at one in the fourth with a walk and a single.
- The Eagles would score the game-winning runs in the sixth on two hits and one IUK error. Midway would hold on to close out a 3-1 series opening win.
- Jarod Gillespie, Tucker Platt, Dylan Steele, and Jonathan Latham each had a hit for the Cougars as well.
Game One Pitching
- Lucas Letsinger took the loss to fall to 5-3 on the season. Letsinger allowed three runs (two earned) on just three hits while walking three and striking out six in six innings of work.
- Ethan Leslie tossed the seventh and eighth for IU Kokomo, allowing no runs on two hits with no walks and three strikeouts.
Game Two Offensively
- Just as they did in game one, the Cougars scored in the first for an early lead. Garczynski and Nolan Bowser singled to open the game before Garczynski scored on a throwing error and Bowser scored on a bases-loaded HBP for a 2-0 IUK lead.
- Midway responded immediately with three runs on three hits and one IUK error to take a 3-2 lead after an inning.
- The Cougars would tie it up in the second, as Garczynski singled and scored on a Bowser double down the left field line,
- IU Kokomo regained the lead in the third, scoring three runs on one hit and one Midway error. Platt doubled to lead off the inning and Luke Barnes followed with a walk. Both would score an unearned run on a throwing error. Gavin Smith, pinch-running for Dylan Janke, scored on a wild pitch for a 6-3 IUK lead.
- The Eagles exploded for six runs on five hits and one Cougar error in the fourth, taking a 9-6 lead.
- Midway manufactured their final run of the game in the fifth to extend their lead to 10-6 with two innings to play.
- The Cougars needed four in the seventh to extend the game, but were only able to score one. Matt Iacobucci singled through the left side and scored on a Thomas Obergfell double to left center. Midway would close out the 10-7 game two win.
Game Two Pitching
- Ben Harris got the start, going three innings and allowing six earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three.
- Connor Hurt and Brandon Bultemeier combined to toss the fourth with each giving up one earned run.
- Garrison Brege tossed the fifth and sixth, allowing an unearned run on four hits and a walk while striking out one.
The Cougars will return to Midway Monday for the series finale.
