GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The IU Kokomo men's and women's indoor track teams competed in day one of the Grand Valley State University Big Meet Friday, and will return to the Kelly Family Sports Center for the second and final day on Saturday.
Two IU Kokomo school records were broken Friday by four different athletes.
Cyrus Felger broke the school record in the 5k with a time of 16:12.71 before
Luis Saldana followed with a time of 15:53.11 approximately 20 minutes later to claim the record.
In the 600m,
Julian Wallace set a school record before
Drew Caldwell beat his time to break Wallace's minute-old school record. Caldwell finished 12th with a time of 1:22.63 while Wallace finished 13th with a time of 1:22.76.
Leslie Sprankles and
Joy McDivitt competed in the women's 600m, finishing 23rd and 28th respectively in a stacked field. Sprankles finished with a time of 1:46.84 and McDivitt had a time of 1:51.59.
NAIA Indoor Nationals qualifier
Makala Pfefferkorn competed in the long and triple jump Friday. Pfefferkorn finished sixth in the long jump behind five NCAA Division I athletes with a mark of 5.29m. In the triple jump, Pfefferkorn finished 14th with a mark of 10.79m.
