Box Score KOKOMO, Ind. - The IU Kokomo women's basketball team earned an impressive victory over Bethel University on Tuesday night, winning by a final score of 70-50. With the win, the Cougars climb over to .500 at 3-2.
Bethel struck first on an early layup, which was quickly answered by
Anna Kiser to tie the score at two. The teams continued to trade jump shots until the score was again even at 10.
The Cougars then went ahead on a layup from
Kristen Ridner and a pair of free throws from
Hannah Hodgen, before a free throw by Bethel put the score at 14-11 after one quarter.
Layups from
Anna Kiser and
Shamaria Walker gave the Cougars a 18-15 lead by the midpoint of the second quarter. An offensive surge by Bethel tied the score at 23, before IUK broke away in the final moments of the half, led by back-to-back layups by
Kristen Ridner and free throws from
Hannah Hodgen, to lead 30-25 at halftime.
Bethel started the third quarter strong, jumping out to a 33-32 lead three minutes into the half. The teams tied at 37 and again at 40, before a three pointer by
Anya Friend in the final seconds of the period gave IUK a 43-42 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Kelsi Langley and
Alaya Chapman each scored a layup early in the fourth quarter to increase the Cougars' lead to five, but Bethel quickly stormed back to lead 48-47. The Cougars responded with a relentless 23-0 scoring run as Bethel simply could not find a basket.Â
At the buzzer, IU Kokomo had completed a dominant 70-50 victory.
Anna Kiser and
Kristen Ridner led the Cougars in scoring with 13 points each, closely followed by
Anya Friend with 12 points.
Conference play begins next week for the Cougars with an away game against IU East on Tuesday, November 28th.
