LIMA, Ohio. - The Indiana University Kokomo men's basketball team earned an 84-69 road-win Tuesday night inside "The Garage" on the campus of UNOH, led by a 30-point, seven rebound performance from sophomore
Ty Wills.
Junior forward
Max Newman continued his impressive start to the season, posting a 14-point, 19 rebound double-double, his fifth-straight to begin the year.
Senior guard
Chris Chin played well, pouring in 14 points while grabbing seven boards.
Evan Kretz added 11 points in 28 minutes of action.
It was a slow-start offensively for IUK in the opening minutes, allowing UNOH to build an 8-2 lead less than two minutes into the game.
The Racers led 13-7 before seven-straight points from the Cougars gave IUK a one-point lead at 14-13.Â
IU Kokomo managed to maintain a minimal lead for much of the remainder of the half, with the exception of one tie at 24 with 4:53 to play. With the game tied at 24, IUK utilized a 7-0 run to lead by seven before a
Ty Wills trey made it an eight-point lead late in the half.
The Cougars took a four-point, 37-33 lead into the locker room at the half.Â
Play early on in the second half seemed to be more of the same tightly-contested action seen in the opening 20 minutes, but IU Kokomo would eventually find some breathing room. With the game tied at 45, a 15-5 spurt from the Cougars opened the door for their first double-digit lead of the game.
The IUK lead was extended to 21 several times in the final ten minutes of Tuesday night's contest, as IU Kokomo closed out an 84-69 win over the Racers of UNOH.
The Cougars will return to action next Monday for their home-opener, as they will welcome East-West University to campus Monday, November 20th, for a 7:00 PM tip-off.
