Men's Basketball Earns Gritty 75-72 Win at IU East to Return to Win Column

RICHMOND, Ind. - The IU Kokomo men's basketball picked up a gritty road win Tuesday evening in Richmond, knocking off IU East 75-72. The win improves IUK to 17-6 overall and 11-2 in River States Conference play.

Three big-time performances played a large role in the Cougars fourth-consecutive win over IU East. Hunter White led the way with 21 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists. Darian Porch had a double-double of 19 points and ten rebounds, all while tallying five steals. Noah Harris scored 15 points in his first start of the season.

IU East took an early 4-0 lead, but IU Kokomo scored four-straight points for their first lead of the game. Trailing 5-4, the Cougars went on a 9-0 run to take a 13-5 lead. With 9:51 remaining in the half, IU East tied the game at 15 on a Bryce Long layup.

Darian Porch drilled a triple to cut a four-point IU East lead to one, but the Red Wolves responded with a 9-0 run to take a ten-point, 30-20 lead. IU Kokomo closed out the final 3:49 of the half on a 10-2 run in order to trail by just two points at halftime.

A Jake Johnson three-pointer for IU East gave them a 39-34 lead early in the second stanza, but IU Kokomo scored eight-straight points to take a 42-39 lead. At the midway point of the second-half, the score was tied at 50, and the game would remain tight for the final ten minutes.

After trading buckets for five minutes of game-action, a Zach Rinehart layup gave IUK a five-point cushion with 4:47 to play. The Cougars led 72-65 with 1:04 remaining, but four-straight Red Wolves points trimmed the IUK lead to three.

IU Kokomo led by six before IU East knocked down three foul-shots to trail by three with three seconds left. Hunter White was fouled and missed both shots, but made up for it with a game-sealing steal. IU Kokomo held on to beat IU East 75-72.

The Cougars will return home for two-straight games inside the Student Activities and Events Center. IUK will host Saint Mary-of-the-Woods Saturday with a 3:00 P.M. tip-off.
