Strong Third Quarter Propels Points Park to 72-57 Win Over IU Kokomo

KOKOMO, Ind. - The IU Kokomo women's basketball team fell to Point Park Saturday afternoon 72-57. The Cougars trailed by just four-points at halftime, but a strong third-quarter from the Pioneers propelled them to a double-digit win.

Point Park got the scoring started Saturday afternoon, taking an early 3-0 lead. The Cougars trailed by six at 14-8 with 3:20 to go in the first quarter before Olivia Dowden drilled a three-pointer to cut the deficit in half. A jumper from Kristen Ridner tied the game at 18 heading into the second quarter.

An Emma Good layup gave IUK a 20-18 lead early in the second quarter, their first lead of the game. The Cougars led 24-21 before the Pioneers went on an 8-0 run to take a five-point lead. IU Kokomo battled back to tie the game at 29, but Point Park scored the final four points of the half for a 33-29 halftime lead.

The Pioneers came out of halftime strong, extending the lead to nine in the first two and a half minutes of the third quarter. Point Park maintained control for the entirety of the third period, leading by as many as 13 and taking a 53-40 lead into the final quarter.

Trailing 56-42, IU Kokomo scored nine-straight to cut the deficit to five at 56-51. Point Park regained control shortly after and managed to extend the lead back to double-digits. Point Park led by double-digits for the remainder of the game and won 72-57 over the Cougars.

Alaya Chapman led IU Kokomo with 16 points and was the only double-figure scorer for the Cougars Saturday. Anna Kiser was two points shy of a double-double, scoring eight points and grabbing ten rebounds. Kristen Ridner added eight points and Emma Good contributed seven points.

The Cougars will return to the hardwood Tuesday evening with a road game at IU East. Tip-off is set for 5:30 P.M.
