Mills Homers to Lift Baseball Past Georgetown

KOKOMO, Ind. – The Indiana University Kokomo baseball team picked up its fourth straight win on Monday afternoon as the Cougars took down a tough Georgetown College team, 6-5. IUK improves to 9-6 on the season. 
 
Key Moments
  • Riley Garczynski led off the Cougars' half of the first, taking the first pitch through the left side for a single. Pat Mills put IU Kokomo up 2-0 with his second home run of the season. Dylan Janke was hit by a pitch with one out. Bryce Lenz came on to pinch run and scored from first on a Jack Leverenz double down the left field line. 
  • Georgetown plated two runs on three hits in the top of the second inning. 
  • Luke Barnes and Tahj Borom led off the bottom of the third with back-to-back singles. They would both move up 90 feet after a Garczynski laid down a sacrifice bunt. The Tigers issued an intentional walk to Mills to load the bases. Two straight wild pitches from Georgetown allowed Barnes and Borom to score, giving the Cougars a 5-2 lead. Dylan Steele picked up an RBI on a groundout, scoring Mills to make it 6-2. 
  • The Tigers added a run in the third to cut their deficit to three runs. 
  • Sam Hinshaw came on in relief of IUK starter Lucas Letsinger in the fifth and left two runners stranded on the base paths. 
  • After two quick outs in the top of the sixth, Georgetown took advantage of an IUK error to plate two runs, making it a 6-5 game. 
Pitching Key Moments
  • Letsinger earned the win, tossed a pre-determined four innings. It was the first win of the freshman's career.
  • Garrison Brege threw two innings, allowing just two hits. 
  • Ethan Leslie earned the first save of his career as the freshman threw 1.1 innings, striking out two batters. 
By the Numbers
  • Garczynski finished the game 3-for-4.
  • Barnes and Borom each went 2-for-4 at the plate.
  • Mills drove in two runs.

  • It will be a quick turnaround for the Cougars as they will host Madonna tomorrow at Kokomo Municipal Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
