GREENTOWN, Ind. – The Indiana University Kokomo women's tennis team opened the spring portion of their season with a 6-1 victory over the University of Saint Francis (IN) at the Howard County Indoor Tennis Center.
The Cougars clinched the doubles point after the duo of Gabby Orlando and
Reese Johnson made quick work of their opponents, winning 6-0.
Reiley Hiser and
Larissa O'Rourke clinched the point with a 6-1 win and in No. 3 doubles, Veronica Fiscus and
Kelsey Rhoades won 6-3 to give IU Kokomo the clean sweep in doubles action.
Orlando and Johnson were the first to finish singles action, both winning to put IU Kokomo ahead 3-0 in the match. Hiser secured the match win for the Cougars, winning 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.
O'Rourke won her first set at No. 2 singles, 6-2 to take a 1-0 lead in the match. In the second set, O'Rourke battled back to win a hard-fought second, 7-6 in the tiebreak. At No. 5 singles, Rhoades earned the straight set victory, winning 6-1, 6-4.
The Cougars will return to action on Sunday, February 20 as they host Carlow in River States Conference action. The match will be played at Howard County Indoor Tennis Center and will begin at 1 p.m.
