KOKOMO, Ind. - The Indiana University Kokomo women's basketball team fell 86-56 to River States Conference West division foe IU Southeast Saturday afternoon.
Kristen Ridner knocked down a jumper to give IUK an early 2-0 lead, but after that it was all IU Southeast. The Grenadiers led 13-4 at the midway point of the first quarter, and 22-10 heading into the second quarter.
IU Southeast scored the first 14 points of the second quarter to extend their lead to 36-10 with 4:14 remaining in the first half. The Grenadiers took a 44-16 lead into halftime.
The Cougars outscored the Grenadiers in the third quarter 22-19, and played much better collectively in the second-half.
Anya Friend had nine third-quarter points to lead the Cougars, who trailed IU Southeast 63-38 after three quarters.
An
Ella Wolfe layup trimmed the deficit to 23 early in the fourth quarter, but the Cougars were unable to cut into the deficit any more. IU Southeast went on to beat IU Kokomo 86-56.
Anya Friend was the Cougars only double-digit scorer Saturday, scoring 22 points in 28 minutes of action. Three other Cougs contributed six points, including
Anna Kiser who also pulled down eight rebounds.
The Cougars will return to action Tuesday, as they welcome Oakland City to town. Tip-off is set for 5:30 P.M.
