PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The IU Kokomo volleyball team took down IU Southeast in three sets Friday afternoon to advance to the RSC Championship semifinals. The Cougars advance to the semifinals where they will play the winner of IU East vs Rio Grande.
The Cougars started the match strong, winning the first six points to force IU Southeast to take a timeout. IUK led 13-6 at the midway point of the set, and back-to-back kills from
Lorelei Porter late in the set extended the IUK lead to 21-10. The Cougs went on to win the first set 25-14.
IU Southeast held an early 3-1 advantage in set two, but by the halfway point of the set, IU Kokomo led 13-8. Consecutive kills from
Sidney Gerig extended the IUK lead to nine at 18-9, and the Cougars eventually won the second-set 25-13.
IU Kokomo continued their strong play in the third set, winning eight of the first nine points for an 8-1 lead. Leading 13-7, the Cougars went on a 5-0 run to take an 18-7 lead. IU Kokomo closed out set three 25-14 to win the match in straight sets over IU Southeast.
Audrey Strawsma led the Cougars with 14 kills Friday afternoon, while
Lorelei Porter had 11 and
Sidney Gerig added nine. Lexi Broyles had five total blocks to lead IUK.
Kaley Lyons led IU Kokomo with 21 assists, and Allison Richman had 16.
Alyvia Smith had 14 digs to lead the Cougs, and Julia Sanders had ten.
The Cougars will return to action tomorrow afternoon in the RSC Championship semifinals, where they will play the winner of IU East vs Rio Grande. First serve is set for 12:30 P.M.
