KOKOMO, Ind. – The IU Kokomo women's soccer team came up short against Point Park Saturday in a battle for the River States Conference regular season title. The Cougars fell 2-0, and will enter the RSC Tournament with an overall record of 12-2-3 and an 8-1-1 RSC mark.
Point Park came out of the gates strong, playing with aggression and energy. IU Kokomo's
Keely Hoopingarner sent a shot off the crossbar in the 22nd minute, as the Cougars were denied an early 1-0 lead.
A foul on IU Kokomo's
Skylar Mannon inside the box gifted Point Park a penalty kick in the 26th minute. The Pioneers Athena Beck converted the penalty kick to give Point Park a 1-0 lead.
Less than two minutes later, IUK goalkeeper Kailee Moore missed an opportunity to make a relatively easy save, but the ball snuck past her to extend the Point Park lead.
Keely Hoopingarner had another shot go off of the crossbar in the 36th minute, this time a header off of a
Skylar Mannon corner kick. The Pioneers took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
The second half of Saturday's match was fairly uneventful, as Point Park managed the clock in order to protect their two-goal lead. The Cougars and Point Park each got off three shots in the second half, but neither team was able to find the back of the net. Point Park won the match 2-0 to win the River States Conference regular season title.
The Cougars will be back-in-action November, 9th, as they will host a RSC tournament semifinal at Kokomo Municipal Match. First serve is set for 7:00 P.M. and the opponent is TBD.
