SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. - The IU Kokomo volleyball team swept Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Tuesday night on the road in impressive fashion. With the win, the Cougars have now won seven-straight and are 24-5 overall.
The Cougars dominated in all phases Tuesday night, holding the Pomeroys to a -.040 hitting percentage while hitting .368 in the match. SMWC managed to win just 29 points the entirety of the match.
IU Kokomo took control of the match early, leading 10-6 in the opening set before winning six consecutive points to take a ten-point lead. The Cougars went on to win the first set 25-9.
The Cougars and Pomeroys were tied at seven in the second set, but from then on it was all IU Kokomo. IUK went on a 10-0 run to take a 17-7 lead, eventually winning the set 25-11 to take a two-set lead.
IU Kokomo won 13 of the first 15 points in the third set to take a commanding 13-2 lead. The Cougs cruised to a 25-9 third-set win and sweep of SMWC.
IUK was led by
Sidney Gerig offensively, as Gerig had a match-high ten kills.
Lexi Broyles added eight kills and
Tori Wilkinson contributed seven.
Kaley Lyons had a match-high 22 assists while
Allison Richman had 11.
Alyvia Smith led the Cougs with a match-high 16 digs.
The Cougars will return to action this Friday at IU East in an important River States Conference divisional matchup. First-serve is set for 7:00 P.M.
