OWENSBORO, Ky. - The IU Kokomo volleyball team won in straight sets at Brescia Saturday afternoon to finish the week 3-0. The Cougars are now 20-5 and 9-1 in River States Conference play.
The opening set proved to be the closest set of the match. Halfway through the opening set, IU Kokomo led 13-10. Leading 20-16, the Bearcats won three straight points to trim the IUK lead to one.Â
After an IUK timeout, Brescia won two more points to tie the match at 21. The Cougars responded however, winning the next four points to close out a 25-21 first-set win.
The Cougars and Bearcats were tied at five early in the second set, but IUK soon turned their level of play up a notch. The Cougars closed out the set on a 20-10 run to win it 25-15 and take a two-set lead.
By the midway point of the third set, IU Kokomo had built an eight-point lead at 13-5. IU Kokomo led 16-9 before closing out the set on a 9-0 run to win it 25-9 and the match 3-0.
Audrey Strawsma led the Cougs offensively, tallying 11 kills.
Lexi Broyles added eight kills and
Lorelei Porter contributed seven kills.
Defensively,
Alyvia Smith had a match-high 28 digs and
Julia Sanders totaled 13 digs.
Kaley Lyons had 19 assists for a match-high while
Allison Richman added 13.
The Cougars will return to action Tuesday as they will travel to Oakland City to take on the Mighty Oaks. First serve is set for 7:00 P.M.
