KOKOMO, Ind. - The Indiana University Kokomo women's tennis team hit the courts for a pair of non-conference matchups today against Grace College and Trine University. The Cougars traveled to Winona Lake for a dual match with the Lancers before returning home to take on Trine at Foster Park.
The Cougars fell to Grace, 6-1.
Gabbie Orlando picked up the win for IUK at No. 1 singles. The sophomore battle to a pair of 6-4 victories to earn her first win of the season.
Reese Johnson battled, winning her second set after dropping the first to force a tiebreak. Johnson came up just shot in the tiebreak, falling 10-7.

Their first home match of the season was a competitive one. The Cougars fell 4-3 to the Trine Thunder. The match came down to a decisive sixth match at No. 6 singles and the Thunder held on to spoil the Cougars' home opener.
Reiley Hiser and
Andrea Saylor picked up a victory at No. 2 doubles after the Thunder took the opening doubles match. With the doubles point on the line, the Cougars'
Larissa O'Rourke and
Kelsey Rhoades nearly clinched the doubles point for IU Kokomo but came up just short in a hard-fought match, falling 7-6 (10-8) in a marathon match.
Trailing 1-0, the Cougars would drop singles matches at the No. 1 and No. 2 lines, to fall behind, 3-0.
Reese Johnson earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory to get keep the Cougar's hopes alive. Hiser fell behind 1-0 but rallied to win the next two sets to bring IUK within a point of the Thunder. Saylor took care of business at the No. 5 line to even things at three with one match still on the court. At No. 6 singles, Rhoades earned a 6-2 win in the opening set but dropped the second to force a decisive third set. Rhoades fell 7-5 in the final set, giving the Thunder a slim 4-3 match victory.
The Cougars return to the court on Friday as they participate in the River States Conference Invite hosted by Indiana University Southeast.
