KOKOMO, Ind. – The Indiana University Kokomo women's basketball team lost a heartbreaker to Alice Lloyd Friday afternoon, 64-63. The Cougars are now 1-5 overall and 0-2 in River States Conference play.

The Eagles of Alice Lloyd scored the first four points of the game and led by as many as seven in the first three and a half minutes of the opening quarter. However, the Cougars were in the bonus early in the period and went 8-9 from the stripe. A Gabrielle Joyner trey gave IU Kokomo their first lead of the contest at 13-11 and the Cougars led 17-13 after one period.

The Cougars led by two with 6:47 remaining in the second quarter, but the Eagles went on an 8-0 run to take a six-point lead of their own at 28-22. IU Kokomo outscored Alice Lloyd 7-5 over the final 4:27 of the half to trail the Eagles by just four at halftime

Anya Friend knocked down one of her two triples coming out of the break to cut the Alice Lloyd lead to one at 33-32. The Cougars were unable to recapture the lead until the 6:26 mark of the third quarter on a Tia Chambers layup. Alice Lloyd quickly regained the lead and took a 47-45 lead into the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter proved to be the highest scoring quarter of the game with 35 total points. Vanessa Mullins came off the bench and added eight fourth quarter points to lead the Cougars offensively. The Cougars finally took their first lead of the final period with 1:42 remaining in the game on a Vanessa Mullins jumper, but that would be the final points of the night for IU Kokomo. The Cougars led 63-62 until Haley Hall knocked down the game-winner with five seconds left to lift Alice Lloyd over IU Kokomo 64-63.

Vanessa Mullins led IU Kokomo with 12 points and five rebounds. The senior Jaela Meister contributed nine points while Anya Friend and Tia Chambers each added eight points.

The Cougars will return to the floor Tuesday, as they welcome Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College to campus for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
