KOKOMO, Ind. – The Indiana University Kokomo volleyball team dominated the RedStorm of Rio Grande Friday morning in the quarterfinals of the River States Conference Championship. With the victory, the Cougars move on to the semifinals where they will take on the winner of the final quarterfinal between IU Southeast and Point Park. Today's win gives the Cougars their 15
th consecutive victory.
After dropping the opening point of the match, IU Kokomo reeled off three straight points to take a 3-1 lead. The first set proved to be the most competitive of the match, but the Cougars held a lead throughout and took the opening set 25-18.
The Cougars dominated the second set, hitting for a match-high .591 while holding Rio Grande to a -.100 hitting percentage. Leading 11-4 early, IU Kokomo finished the second set on a 14-2 run to take the set 25-6.
The third set featured more of the same offensive prowess from the Cougars. An
Erinn Adam kill gave the Cougars a 15-8 lead and forced a Rio Grande timeout to stop the momentum. However, IU Kokomo came out of the timeout to extend their lead to 11 at 19-8. The Cougars finished off the RedStorm on a
Lorelei Porter kill to give IU Kokomo a three-set sweep.
Erinn Adam paced the Cougar attack with 15 kills.
Sidney Gerig had nine kills while
Morgan Weir added eight.
Kaley Lyons led IU Kokomo with 22 assists.
The Cougars will return to the court at 10 a.m. tomorrow morning for their semifinal matchup against the winner of tonight's quarterfinal match between IU Southeast and Point Park.
