Duncan Named NAIA Outdoor Championships MVP After Historic Three-Title Performance

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Following one of the most dominant performances in meet history, IU Kokomo junior thrower Sydney Duncan was named the Most Valuable Performer of the 2026 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships after accounting for 30 points across three national championship performances.

Only one MVP award is presented for both the men's and women's sides of the national meet, making Duncan's accomplishment the highest individual honor awarded at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships.

Duncan captured national titles in the hammer throw, shot put, and discus over the course of the three-day championship meet, becoming one of the most decorated athletes in the country regardless of division and helping lead the Cougars to the strongest national finish in program history. Her three national championships also brought her career total to six NAIA national titles between indoor and outdoor competition.

The junior opened the meet by making history in the hammer throw, winning the first non-shot put national championship in IU Kokomo athletics history. She followed that performance with another dominant showing in shot put before closing the weekend with a national title in discus, holding off several top-seeded competitors in the finals.

Across the championship meet, Duncan totaled 30 team points for the Cougars, the maximum possible amount from her three events, while also leading IU Kokomo to the best national finish in program history. Her performance capped off a historic 2026 campaign that also included River States Conference championships in all three throwing events, multiple national qualifying marks, and recognition as the top female thrower in the NAIA throughout the season.

Already established as one of the premier throwers in the nation entering the season, Duncan elevated her legacy even further in Asheville, cementing herself as one of the most accomplished student-athletes in NAIA track and field history with her historic performance throughout the week.
